Tap the main beat, not every drum hit.

A few taps. A useful starting point.

  1. Play a song and listen for the steady pulse.
  2. Tap the circle or press Space on each beat.
  3. Keep going for a steadier estimate. Copy when ready.

What the number means

BPM means beats per minute. This tool divides 60,000 by the average time in milliseconds between your latest taps, using up to 8 intervals. Your first estimate appears after 4 taps.

Getting twice the tempo you expected? Try ÷2. Counting a slower pulse? Try ×2. These change the reading without changing your taps.

This is an estimate of your tapping, not automatic song detection. A pause of 3 seconds starts a fresh round on your next tap, so continuous tempos of 20 BPM or slower are outside its range. Taps less than 120 milliseconds apart are ignored.
